This fall the Healdsburg Tribune ran a story about friends of its columnist who wanted to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary at a downtown restaurant they had been going to for years. The only reservation they could get was 5:30 on a Sunday, at a table in the parklet outside. They did end up with a table inside. The columnist's point stood anyway: on weekends in Healdsburg, even long-time regulars wait in line with everyone else.
The rest of that column explained what Healdsburg's kitchens offer on other nights. Several restaurants in town run a second calendar from Sunday to Thursday, with menus priced and named for people who live in Sonoma County. Wednesday is the center of the local week, because it's the night farthest from the weekend crowds. According to the Tribune, many locals say they have better luck at restaurants with a locals menu, or on the slower nights when visitors aren't filling the tables.
Why the weeknight menus exist
The Tribune column starts with wine-industry trouble: forecasts of a downturn, vineyards pulling out vines. Visitors still pack Healdsburg on holidays and weekends, the column says, and in between, the people who live here still go out to dinner. Kitchens need covers on the quiet nights, and a fixed-price three-course menu aimed at nearby diners fills those tables without discounting the weekend.
You can see the pricing gap at Folia Bar & Kitchen. This fall Folia ran a Monday series of Greek cooking from chef Dino Moniodis at $85 prix fixe, wine not included, through Oct. 12. Folia's standing Wednesday menu for the Sonoma County community is three courses for $55. That's $30 less from the same kitchen, and the lower price is the one that runs every week.
The week, night by night
Here is how the locals calendar looks heading into the second half of November, based on each restaurant's current listings and the Tribune's reporting.
| Night | Where | What runs |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday to Thursday | The Matheson, downtown | Local's Menu, three courses for $58, from 5 p.m. |
| Tuesday | Harmon House Rooftop, 227 Healdsburg Ave., upstairs | 2-for-1 tacos |
| Wednesday | Folia Bar & Kitchen, 101 Dovetail Lane | Neighbor Night North, three courses for $55 |
| Wednesday | Spoonbar | Fried Chicken + Fixins |
| Wednesday | Maréla at Liora Estate | Live music on the patio, 5 to 8 p.m. |
| Thursday | Dry Creek Kitchen | Sonoma Neighbors Menu, three courses for $55 |
| Friday and Saturday | Roof 106 at The Matheson | Reverse Happy Hour, 9 to 10 p.m. |
Monday hardly appears, and the reason is simple. Dry Creek Kitchen serves dinner Wednesday through Sunday, 5 to 9 p.m., and is closed Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is the earliest night that restaurant can host locals, so the local week starts later than the calendar week.
Tuesday is for the rooftop
Apart from The Matheson's all-weeknight menu, Tuesday has one regular offer, and it doesn't need a reservation. The Tribune lists a Tuesday special at the Harmon House Rooftop, upstairs at 227 Healdsburg Ave., where tacos are 2-for-1. The rooftop is open daily from 3 to 8 p.m., seating is first-come, first-served, and you don't need a reservation. That 8 p.m. close makes it an early stop. In mid-November the sun goes down before most people leave work, so the rooftop is really a stop right after work.
Wednesday carries the most weight
On top of The Matheson's Local's Menu, three more offers land on Wednesday, more than any other night.
Folia Bar & Kitchen is Charlie Palmer's restaurant at Appellation Healdsburg, 101 Dovetail Lane. It opened in September 2025, according to Eater San Francisco. Its Wednesday menu is called Neighbor Night North, and Folia describes it as "The Healdsburg tradition you know and love heads north." Every Wednesday it serves three courses for $55, as a celebration for "our Sonoma County friends, family and community." The regular dinner menu is available that night too, so not everyone at the table has to order the set menu. The Tribune notes that the rotating seasonal menu is open to local residents and visiting guests alike.
Spoonbar does fried chicken every Wednesday, served with seasonal sides and your choice of starter. The Tribune put the meal at $38 and called it a popular weekly pick, which stands out for a kitchen that isn't known for bar food.
Maréla, at Liora Estate, adds music. It has live music every Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m., whether you come for a drink and happy hour or stay for dinner. The space used to be Arandas, which also held a Wednesday happy hour before it closed and reopened as Maréla, according to the Tribune. Wednesday stayed Wednesday when the restaurant changed hands. For dinner, Maréla's current menu lists a $65 three-course tasting menu.
Wednesday's offers stack because the reasoning is the same at each restaurant. In the Tribune's words, Wednesday "has long been a reliable date for locals. After all it's not really the weekend, right?" Three restaurants making the same call on their own is what makes it Healdsburg's locals night.
Thursday runs on a long-standing menu
Thursday has the oldest offer on the list. According to the Tribune, Dry Creek Kitchen started its locals menu on Thursdays many years ago, and it continues under chef Shane McAnelly. It's called the Sonoma Neighbors Menu. For $55 you choose from several canapés, then a main of porcini or rockfish depending on the season, then dessert. The restaurant's current listings still show the Thursday Sonoma Neighbors menu at $55 for three courses.
Dry Creek Kitchen and Folia are both Charlie Palmer restaurants. They have separate neighbor nights, Wednesday at Folia and Thursday at Dry Creek Kitchen, so the two never compete for the same diners.
The Matheson covers the whole weeknight span
If you can't plan around one particular night, The Matheson's Local's Menu covers the most of them. The Press Democrat reported its launch in January 2023: three courses for $58, served from 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. The menu changes every two weeks with whatever produce is in season, features a local farm, and comes with a suggested local wine pairing. This fall's Tribune column confirmed it's still running on that schedule, and it called Sunday through Thursday Healdsburg's "off-season."
That puts three chef-driven menus within $3 of each other: $55 at Folia, $55 at Dry Creek Kitchen and $58 at The Matheson. Within a few dollars, the going price for a three-course locals dinner in Healdsburg is about $55.
The one weekend window
Locals do get one slot on Friday and Saturday, after the dinner rush. Roof 106, the rooftop bar at The Matheson, holds a Reverse Happy Hour from 9 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations are capped at parties of four, and most seats are first-come, first-served. The Tribune described it as an after-dinner happy hour, the kind of thing locals in Healdsburg know about. The weekend belongs to visitors until about 9 p.m. After that, there's room on the roof again.
What else fills the rest of November
A few more dates fit around the weeknight dinners:
- Thursday, Nov. 12: Little Saint has River Shook and Ismay on its lineup, free. On Thursday, Nov. 19, Haley Heynderickx plays with Greg Mendez, with tickets at $47.80.
- Saturdays: The Healdsburg Farmers' Market meets from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Foley Family Community Pavilion, 3 North St. The City of Healdsburg calendar lists Nov. 21 and Nov. 28. The Saturday market runs through Dec. 19, and the Tuesday market has closed for the season.
- Starting Friday, Nov. 20: The Healdsburg Museum at 221 Matheson St. opens "A Very Boomer Holiday," an exhibit of toys and model trains that runs through Jan. 10, 2027. It's open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free. The museum is a couple of blocks from The Matheson, so a Wednesday afternoon visit could lead straight into dinner.
- Saturday, Nov. 28: Dry Creek Vineyard holds its Holiday Celebration + Marketplace from noon to 4 p.m. at 3770 Lambert Bridge Road. The event is 21 and over, with local artisan vendors, carolers and Santa, plus a food drive for the Healdsburg Food Pantry.
- Monday, Nov. 30: Maréla hosts Mahjong Mondays with Mahjong with Amy, an open-play evening for people who already know the game. Tickets are sold in advance.
The next big date on the Plaza comes after the month ends. Merry Healdsburg is Friday, Dec. 4, 5 to 9 p.m., with a night market, carriage rides, the Healdsburg Chorus, a Hanukkah candle-lighting and the tree lighting. Until then, the Wednesday menus keep running every week.
Douglas Del Fava and Shannon Parker live and work in Sonoma Valley, and they keep track of how Healdsburg's week runs because their clients ask about it, whether they're staying put or thinking about a change. If you're wondering how your own Healdsburg home fits into a market that runs on these seasonal rhythms, Del Fava Parker can tell you what it's worth. Request a Home Valuation, and you'll get the conversation in person or over a Wednesday dinner.
